UK Farriers Bare All for Charity

Once again, British farriers have shown their lack of modesty, their sense of humor, and their dedication to charity by posing unclad for a wall calendar. Proceeds will benefit charity research.

This time, it is the farriers from the county of Devon who make the effort. They obviously enjoyed themselves and the photos are quite remarkable, as shot by Horse & Hound photographer Katherine Pearn who got a warmup with the Cornwall farriers last year. For 2006, the calendar has been upgraded to full color.

The best shots are the ensemble ones, such as those shown.

There are actually two naked farrier calendars in the UK this year; the farriers of Herefordshire did one to benefit riding for the disabled, but we haven’t seen that one yet.

Hoofcare & Lameness expects to have a few of these on hand for the holidays. Be forewarned: all proceeds go to charity and the price of shipping is very dear. The calendars are also quite large. Each is like a poster, no fold, with binding at the top. Cost will be in the $30 range, minimum, but this is one gift that is priceless!

(PS Not to be outdone, the veterinarians of Vail, Colorado posed for a nude vets calendar last year to benefit the local humane society there. On the cover: our friend, heart-bar advocate George Platt, wearing only a bandana, serenading two horses while playing a strategically placed dobro guitar. No word yet if they have plans for a 2006 edition.)
