Hoofcare Bulletin

A funeral service will be held on Saturday, according to AFA Executive Director John McCutchen, who will represent the organization at the funeral.

Emil had "retired" from his position as full-time specialty farrier at the Pioneer Equine Hospital in Oakdale, California last year, where he worked with AAEP President Jerry Black. He and his wife Cate and son Gordon had moved to Gualala, a remote area of the northern California coast, to build a new home.

Emil and Cate had established and owned Independence Farm in Oakdale. They bred and raised IHF (International Hunter Futurity) prospects including three national champions, and took in layups.

The AFA has established a fund in Emil's memory, to which donations may be made in lieu of flowers sent to the funeral.

For more information about the fund, call the AFA at 859 233 7411 or visit www.americanfarriers.org.

Emil Carre was outspoken, tenacious, and very generous to his family and friends. I can think of no one in the world who was as proud of being a farrier as Emil Carre.

More details will be posted as they become available.

The following is a note from John McCutchen, AFA Executive Director:

It is with regret that I inform you of the passing of Emil Carre, CJF on Tuesday, July 30, 2002.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday afternoon, the 3rd of August at 2:30 PM at the home of Cate Carre s father.  His name and address is:

Walter Ratcliff
31500 S. Highway 1
Gualala, CA  95445

Cate has requested in lieu of flowers being sent to the memorial service a fund be set up through the AFA to recieve any contributions in memory of Emil and that the Board determine how these contributions received by the AFA may best be used to honor Emil and to promote the farrier industry.

Should anyone desire to make a contribution to the AFA in
memory of Emil, the office has been instructed to maintain a seperate accounting on these funds until after a determination is made by the Board of Directors at their October meeting as to how these funds may be best utilized.

I am leaving tomorrow for California and will be attending the memorial service to represent the AFA.

Sincerely,

John
